Reputation Monitoring Common Terms

    AFFIRM Reputation Monitoring

A First Orion solution that tracks how your phone numbers are being displayed on mobile devices across major U.S carriers. It provides alerts when numbers are labeled negatively and includes historical trends and tagging volume. While AFFIRM doesn’t control labeling, it helps businesses monitor their numbers and take proactive steps to reduce negative labels.

    Business Number Registration

The process of registering calling numbers with mobile analytics engines, so carriers know your numbers belong to a legitimate business. Calling Numbers must be registered before they can be used to make branded calls.

    Call category/Call Purpose

The calling use case or reason. Common examples include customer service, notifications and telemarketing.

    Label

Display text shown on the recipient’s phone (business name, category, or tag like spam/scam). Labels are determined by Mobile Analytic Engines (MAEs) using network analysis of call behavior, registration data, and feedback.

    Mobile Analytic Engines (MAE)

Third-party companies that monitor and analyze call patterns, user behavior, and complaint data on carrier networks to assign labels or block calls. First Orion supports T-Mobile, Hiya supports AT&T, and TNS (Transaction Network Services) supports Verizon. While the models for labeling differ across MAEs, the core objective remains the same: to identify and label nuisance calls.

    Scam Likely calls

A T-Mobile-specific tag applied to calls suspected of fraud or spoofing. Powered by First Orion analytics.

    Spam calls

High-volume, low engagement calls are often flagged by Mobile Analytic Engines (MAEs). May display as Spam Risk or Potential Spam.

    Spam/Scam Tags (by Carrier/MAE)

Each Mobile Analytic Engine (MAE) applies its own tags based on its carrier partnership. AT&T displays the tag Spam Risk, assigned by Hiya. T-Mobile displays the tag Scam Likely, assigned by First Orion. Verizon displays the tag Potential Spam, assigned by TNS (Transaction Network Services).

    Tagged calls

Calls flagged as spam or scam by Mobile Analytic Engines (MAEs) based on a variety of factors including volume metrics, call patterns, and consumer feedback. Tags include” Potential Spam”, “Spam Risk” or ” “Scam Likely” and appear on devices as warnings to the consumer.
